Moody has MMSMUN is the oldest Model United Nations Conference in Henrico County. It is also been the only middle school Model United Nations Conference in Henrico County for twelve years. For our Model UN Club, we get almost two hundred participants every single year. We gather students for our conference from almost every middle school and many elementary schools. We strive to push students to their farthest extent.
Model United Nations (MUN) is an educational activity that imitates the UN, where the students play the role of the delegates representing different countries or organizations. Similar to how the UN works, members of the MUN debate, compromise, and draft resolutions on important global issues. This gives attendees the opportunity to polish a set of abilities that will be crucial to their long-term development both personally and academically. First of all, MUN fosters critical thinking since delegates delve deeply into issues, consider other points of view, and devise solutions. By pursuing solutions and engaging in discourse regarding actual situations, the participants enhance their comprehension of worldwide concerns and get increasingly knowledgeable and cognizant of the intricacy of international relations. However, because delegates must state their positions concisely and effectively while representing their nation in diplomatic interactions with peers, Model UN fosters good communication skills. As delegates cooperate to find answers to shared issues and come to a consensus on them, the collaborative approach in MUN also improves cooperation and negotiating abilities. MUN is undoubtedly a dynamic learning environment that helps delegates develop into knowledgeable, compassionate, and engaged global citizens with the ability to positively influence their communities and the wider world.
We hope to expose students to intricate international affairs and concepts, such as peace and security, human rights, development, and rule of law issues. Not to mention, we aim to help delegates develop public speaking, writing, and research skills.
Each committee asks delegates to think critically and stay engaged with the topics. By calling for delegates to put their differences aside, we hope for elaborate discussions and innovative solutions.
We thank every student, teacher, sponsor, and parent for their assistance, as none of this would have been possible without them.
